Heavy Bell band and Kristina Watt: Feb 3 In Ottawa
This Saturday the 3rd of February at Pressed Cafe, 8pm, I’ll be performing with a band called HEAVY BELL, led by Matt Peters and Tom Keenan of Winnipeg. The 8-piece musical ensemble are on tour with an album of songs based on the poetic novel by Elizabeth Smart (born in Ottawa), By Grand Central Station I Sat Down and Wept. I will be performing sections of the novel, set to music.
In any case, I wanted to share this project with you that is super fun & unique, and send hopes that you can be there. If not, I’d appreciate for all involved that you spread the word!
WHEN: Saturday, Feb 3, playing at Pressed Café (750 Gladstone Ave) at 8 PM.
OPENING ACT: cello player Raphael Weinroth-Browne.

And to quote Tom Keenan? “I thought you might be interested in a music project I’ve been working on (for eight years!). My friend Matt Peters (of Royal Canoe) and I wrote and recorded an album of songs based on By Grand Central Station I Sat Down and Wept; we are now touring with an 8-piece ensemble (piano, guitar, trumpet, french horn, violin, cello, double bass, and drums). I am really excited about this show: I think it’s the best thing I’ve ever been a part of.”
The Globe and Mail called this “one of the five hottest tickets in Canada”:
