Du 22 mai au 8 juin 2013, Montréal sera de nouveau le territoire de prédilection des artistes de danse et de théâtre qui donneront vie et sens à la 7e édition du Festival TransAmériques. Dans leur désir de changer le réel, de faire entendre, sous le fracas de la pensée dominante, la voix de la différence, les artistes d’ici et d’ailleurs réunis cette année au FTA créent un théâtre, une danse qui portent notre espoir d’un monde meilleur. Ils appellent au dialogue avec 22 spectacles – dont huit coproductions du Festival, six créations mondiales et trois grands événements gratuits –, ainsi que de multiples soirées spéciales, rencontres et films.

Making its NAC Debut, San Francisco’s acclaimed Alonzo King LINES Ballet performs Scheherazade and Resin at the National Arts Centre on May 4, 2013

OTTAWA, April 24, 2013 — Making its anticipated NAC debut, Alonzo King LINES Ballet presents a double-bill including an innovative reimagining of Scheherazade. Founder, Artistic Director and choreographer, Alonzo King fuses ancient Persian, Sanskrit, and Arabic stories with ballet filtered through a contemporary lens. In Resin, the company gloriously interprets rhythm and melody in a suite of solos, duets, and ensemble dances. 

Alonzo King LINES Ballet takes to the Southam Hall stage at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2013. The matinee was added due to popular demand.

OTTAWA – The annual festival, which alternates between its home base in Ottawa and other Canadian cities every other year, is back in Canada’s Capital and will run June 7-15 at the National Arts Centre, University of Ottawa Academic Hall and Arts Court.

Magnetic North Artistic Director Brenda Leadlay proudly unveiled the programming for the 2013 Festival.
“We’re thrilled to be bringing Canada’s top theatre home to Canada’s Capital. You’re invited to immerse yourself in nine days of premiere plays, parties and parleys – a smorgasbord of the best in Canadian theatre,” she said.
Theatre-goers will enjoy fabulous performances and exciting social events and encounters with festival artists.

Ils ont bousculé, marqué, enchanté le public de Montréal, et c’est avec un réel enthousiasme qu’ils le retrouveront bientôt à l’occasion du Festival TransAmériques.

Chef de file de la nouvelle danse européenne, Boris Charmatz est de retour dans la métropole après 10 ans d’absence pour une fascinante Levée des conflits qui réunit 24 danseurs. Transportée par l’effervescence qu’elle a connue l’an dernier, la compagnie italienne MOTUS a choisi Montréal pour la création mondiale de Nella tempesta. Marie Brassard confie elle aussi au public du Festival la découverte d’un nouveau spectacle envoûtant, Trieste. Après l’ébranlement de Tempest en 2011, le chorégraphe samoan Lemi Ponifasio revient en force avec une œuvre essentielle : Birds with Skymirrors. Ginette Laurin poursuit l’Onde de choc de 2010 avec KHAOS qui souligne près de trente ans de belle création d’O Vertigo. Enfin, l’inépuisable Louise Lecavalier se réinvente chorégraphe dansSo Blue.

In  celebration of World  Theatre Day,theatre companies from across the region come together to compete in a “Contest of Creation.”The participating companies will have only 48 hours  to write,rehearse and produce a brand new piece of theatre from objects of inspiration provided to them by the other competitors.

A storm of creativity is unleashed and the results presented for the audience and panel of esteemed but easily bribed judges on  Wednesday March 27th,2013 at the National Arts Centre,Fourth Stage.  Hilarity is the result!  It’s all in good fun and the prize?  Why the world renowned and highly coveted Rubber Chicken Award and bragging rights as Ottawa’s Best Theatre Company!  Tickets are now  available through the NAC Box Office and Ticketmaster. Proceeds to the  ALS Society of Canada

Today, his official message for World Theatre Day (2013), published by the International Theatre Institute,  follows in English and French, translated from Italian

A long time ago, the people in power  resolved the intolerance against Commedia dell’Arte actors by chasing them out of the country.
