The Capital Critics Circle Announces the Nominations for the 2011-2012 Theatre Awards. Two New Awards Have been Added.
The Capital Critics Circle today announced the nominees for the thirteenth annual English-language theatre awards for plays presented in the National Capital Region during the 2011-2012 season. The Circle has expanded this year’s list to include more acting awards.
The nominees are:
Best professional production:
A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare, directed by Catriona Leger, St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival.
And Slowly Beauty by Michel Nadeau, translated by Maureen Labonté, directed by Michael Shamata, A National Arts Centre English Theatre/Belfry Theatre (Victoria, B.C.) production.
The Clockmaker by Stephen Massicotte, directed by Kathryn MacKay, Thousand Islands Playhouse, Gananoque.
Speed-the-Plow by David Mamet, directed by Teri Loretto-Valentik, Plosive Productions.
The Extremely Short Play Festival, directed by John Koensgen, New Theatre of Ottawa.
The 39 Steps, adapted by Patrick Barlow from the novel by John Buchan, directed by John P. Kelly, SevenThirty Productions.

The Audrey Ashley Award for a body of work will be announced on Monday, November 26 at the awards ceremony, to be held at Orpheus House, 17 Fairmont Avenue from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Winners will receive cash awards, plaques and commemorative certificates.
The CCC instituted the awards in 2000 to honour the best in theatre on stages in the National Capital Region. The members of the selection committee for the 2011-2012 season English theatre awards were: Alvina Ruprecht, Patrick Langston, Jamie Portman, Barbara Gray, Maja Stefanovska, Rajka Stefanovska and Iris Winston. The CCC is affiliated with the Canadian Theatre Critics Association and the International Association of Theatre Critics.
The 2012 CCC awards are sponsored by the Ottawa Citizen, Barbara Crook Greenberg, Alan Dean Photography, Nick Wojtas Photography, L-D Tool & Die, the Ottawa Bagelshop and Deli, and OYP Theatre School. The Herb & Spice Shop, Wellington Street, West Village, is supplying some refreshments and Orpheus Musical Theatre Society is hosting the 2011-2012 awards.
